Mysterious Eel Pie Island was once a hippy commune and counterculture hotspot. Part of Twickenham, it’s the largest island in the London stretch of the Thames and is accessible by footbridge. Now it’s a hotspot for artists, carrying a mix of residences, artists’ studios, and nature reserves. Access is restricted most of the time but there are open weekends when you can tour the island and studios.
