Taking its name from a Malay expression that loosely translates to “mix and match”, Champor-Champor aims to do just that in both cuisine and decor.

The cosy den next to London Bridge Station is crammed full of wall hangings, decorative pieces and artefacts from all over the world, saturating the compact venue with all sorts of cultural traditions. Combined with bursts of colour, plentiful use of print and a candlelit ambiance, the setting is simultaneously lavish and familiar. If you’re heading to Champor-Champor on a date, book the mezzanine table for two to score some extra romance points, while larger groups might want to check out the private dining rooms.

As mentioned, the mixing and matching includes the menu as well. Champor-Champor draws on both Thailand and Malaysia for its culinary inspiration, offering a variety of both countries’ traditional dishes. Starters include specialties such as pan-fried tandoori prawns with mango yogurt salad and Thai salsa or the crispy calamari with house mayo, lime and onion compote. For the main course, you can choose a Malay specialty such as beef rendang or go for a king prawn green curry, then round the meal off with a green tea and pistachio parfait.
