Junsei

Junsei is an authentic Japanese restaurant in Marylebone, best known for their moreish yakitori selection and for the buzzy atmosphere, which builds over the course of your evening as the izakaya shifts seamlessly into a hi-fi listening bar. 

If nose-to-tail dining was originally based on the idea of eating every part of a pig, Junsei has perfected the art of using every part of the chicken. Yakitori, their signature skewers, are bite-sized pieces of Devonshire chicken skewered on bamboo sticks and grilled over a high-heat charcoal fire. No part of the chicken is discarded here as they employ a zero-waste mentality, so prepare for aortas, hearts, and livers to feature on the menu. For those less keen on meat generally, there's a range of vegetarian kushiyaki skewers with okra, padron peppers, and tofu. Aside from all things skewered, the menu also features more charcoal-grilled plates and smaller, crispy bites.

For drinks, sake is the order of the day, every day. Thanks to a varied and extensive collection, you can try anything from cloudy sakes to fruit sakes and plenty of regional varieties in between. To help you get your head around the exciting world of the Japanese rice wine, Junsei also hosts occasional sake pairing experiences.

At Junsei, culinary discovery is complemented by vinyl hi-fi mixing. This creates a buzzy, lively atmosphere throughout the dinner service and allows you to enjoy a distinctive sensory blend of flavour and sound.
