The visit to Villa Godthem was unfortunately a disappointment.
Service was slow and the food did not live up to expectations. The chanterelle toast came with large, soggy pieces of mushroom on a brioche that was completely soaked. The Toast Skagen was served on an overly hard toast, with a huge pile of horseradish on the side and, oddly, a little heap of black pepper, even though a pepper mill was already on the table. The wine (Barolo) was fine and so was the champagne. The gnocchi was okay, but the venison was overpowered by juniper and overloaded with fried parsley.
Service wasn’t just slow, it was also disorganized. A table nearby received the wrong food three times, and after they had already finished eating, the waitress came out with yet another main course.
Payment turned into an even bigger mess. At first, we were given a bill without the AmEx discount. After trying to pay via the app, it still went through incorrectly and had to be canceled and reissued by the maître d’. The waitress stood by during the attempt, but never mentioned that payment by app wasn’t possible.
On top of this, the restroom smelled strongly of urine, and in the basement a storage room door was left wide open.
Overall: mediocre food, chaotic service, and a weak impression from start to finish. Not a place worth returning to.
